Steven H. Butler

The Sarasota Suncoast is known as the cultural center of the Florida Gulf Coast. The Players Centre for Performing Arts, a national award-winning theater company right here in Sarasota, has been around for over 93 years. And The Players, as it's affectionately known, has a new Artistic Director, Steven H. Butler.
He's proved the old adage "You can't go home" to be untrue.
A Sarasota native, Butler has returned to his hometown to be the Artistic Director of The Players. We talk about the changing face of the cultural scene on the Suncoast and how people of color are now an integral part of the arts versus the time when they were not seen. Butler describes coming back to his hometown and how he's adjusting to the changes he's seeing - the good and the bad. He also shares his goals for The Players and his passions.
